Belize
I went with a team from Timothy Christian School for one week during the summer of 2003 to Belize. We had several jobs while there. We helped build and paint three different homes, led church services, and taught a Vacation Bible School in two different churches. I was in charge of creating, and leading the crafts throughout the week. We worked beyond the language barrier to interact with these students; and by the end of the week I knew I would never be the same again.
Kenya
In Kenya I spent two months at the Rift Valley Academy. I worked closely with the second, fourth, and sixth grade teachers. I also occasionally assisted in the Kindergarten, First, Third, and Fifth grade classrooms. I worked closely with the Elementary Principal everyday with administrative details. Also, while in Kenya the need arose for a more experienced flute played to assist in the school play; so I volunteered. I practiced with the high school students everyday after school for the next three weeks before the performance. The best part of my trip was when they asked me to be a chaperone on the Sixth Grade Class Trip. We got to visit the Mount Kenya Primary Schooland see how a true Kenyan school is run.
